Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who’s been in hot water since the discovery earlier this year of several illicit text messages between him and his chief of staff, could soon be on his way out. In a 5-4 vote, the Detroit City Council decided to embark on a process to remove Kilpatrick from office. And, it gets worse for the mayor. At the same meeting, council members also decided to ask the governor, Jennifer Granholm, to remove him and voted (7-2) to publicly censure him, reports the AP. Kilpatrick and his ex-chief of staff Christine Beatty both face numerous felonies after they allegedly lied under oath in a civil trial last year, denying they had an extra-marital affair and saying they didn’t fire two cops whose investigation might’ve exposed the relationship. The cops sued, winning over $8 million.
